Short version: Fafnir keeps a library of the games, movies, shows, manga and books you want to get through or have finished. Your library lives on your device and is backed up to our database so you can restore it and compare with friends. We collect no name unless you choose to add one, no location, no advertising identifiers, and we never sell your data or show ads. If you add friends, they can see your library and recommendations — nobody else can. You can delete your account from within the app at any time.

1. Who we are

Fafnir is developed and operated by Olmo Technologies, a sole-trader business based in Norway.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Olmo Technologies is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with Fafnir.

2. What data we collect

Account data

When you first open Fafnir, we create an anonymous account for you so your library can be backed up. This account is identified only by a randomly generated identifier — it is not linked to your name, email, or phone number. You are also assigned a short friend code (for example, FAF-1A2B) so friends can add you.

You may optionally set a display name. If you do, it is stored with your account and shown to friends next to your match score. Providing a display name is entirely optional.

Sign in with Apple (optional)

You may optionally secure your account with Sign in with Apple, so your library follows you if you switch or reset your phone. When you do, Apple provides us with a stable, app-specific user identifier. We store this identifier to link your account to your Apple ID. We do not receive your Apple ID password, and if you choose to hide your email, we never see your real email address.

Your library

The content you create in Fafnir is synced to your account so it can be restored and shared with friends:

Fafnir does not fetch these titles from your other accounts or services — they only reflect what you swipe or add in the app.

Camera (QR scanning only)

Fafnir asks for camera access solely to scan a friend's QR code when adding them. The camera is used only to read the code in real time. No photos or video are captured, stored, or transmitted.

What we do NOT collect

3. How we use your data

We use your data only to operate Fafnir:

The legal basis for processing this data is the performance of our contract with you (providing the app). Optional features — a display name, Sign in with Apple, and adding friends — are processed on the basis of your consent, which you give by choosing to use them.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose beyond operating the app.

4. What friends can see

Fafnir is social by design, but only with people you deliberately add. When you and another user become friends by exchanging or scanning friend codes, that friend can see:

Nobody who is not your friend can see your library. Access is enforced at the database level with row-level security, so your data is only ever returned to you and to users you have added as friends. You can remove a friend at any time from within the app, which ends their access to your library.

5. Third-party services

Supabase

Fafnir uses Supabase to host its database and handle authentication. Your account, library, and friendships are stored in a Supabase project hosted in the European Union. Supabase's data handling is governed by the Supabase Privacy Policy.

Apple

If you use Sign in with Apple, authentication is handled by Apple. Apple's data handling is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.

Catalog and media data

To show posters, cover art, descriptions, runtimes, and scores, Fafnir fetches public catalog information from third-party media databases. Requests for movie and TV data are routed through a Cloudflare proxy operated by Olmo Technologies, which keeps our API keys server-side and forwards no personal data. Game, manga, and book data are requested directly from the relevant service. As with any internet request, the receiving service can see the requesting device's IP address, but Fafnir sends no account information, display name, or library to these services. The providers are:

This app uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

No advertising networks

Fafnir does not integrate any advertising SDK or third-party tracking library.

6. Data storage and security

Your library is stored locally on your device and backed up to our Supabase database in the European Union. Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. Access to your data is protected by authentication and enforced with database row-level security, so that your records are only accessible to you and to friends you have added.

The Cloudflare proxy used to fetch movie and TV data does not persist any request content or personal data.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@olmo-technologies.com. We will respond within 30 days.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet): www.datatilsynet.no.

8. Data retention and account deletion

Your account and synced library are retained for as long as you use Fafnir. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, your synced library, your profile, and your friendships from our database.

Deleting your account does not remove the copy of your library stored locally on your device — that remains under your control and is removed when you delete the app or reset it. If you are a friend of another user, deleting your account also removes you from their friend list.

9. Children's privacy

Fafnir is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will notify you within the app. Your continued use of Fafnir after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
